The Internet Is Really Really Great...for annoying me!

The internet is enraging me lately. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube….these sites just seem designed to invade my life at every moment!

I opted off Facebook for a trial period and was pleased to note that I didn’t miss it. It made absolutely no difference to my life. I still went out, I still saw my friends, I still got drunk and fell down the stairs. I haven’t logged back onto Facebook since. Okay so I might miss the occasional online conversation about how someone was feeling at lunchtime. However will I cope? I’m not alone in my opinion either according to an article I read on the BBC’s website.

Even when I was buying a new mobile phone the other day the sales guy was trying to flog me the latest touch screen technology and using Facebook as his platform. “Hey you know not only can I give you the best roaming prices for your journey but I can also give you a phone that lets you access your Twitter and Facebook accounts at super fast speeds!” I just glared at him until he shut up.

The internet may be a wonderful tool, but it’s allowed a bunch of greedy little twerps to exploit people’s fears of not having any friends or any kind of a life. Just do what I do. Switch off and go talk to a real person!

And before you point it out I am aware of the irony of using the internet to have a rant about the internet

The Stupidity of A Union

The Stupidity of A Union

The European Union keeps promoting business plans that it claims are of great significance for the people in the Union. However, to me, it seems more reasonable to support ideas such as laser hair removal rather than desperate people that just want to make money put of the blue.

Some examples where Euro money has been spent the most – 1) a coal power plant in France that would not only pollute the environment but is also completely useless given the number of nuclear power plants that France has; 2)a coal mining operations in Romania – why is this necessary when the EU, including Romania, is buying the cheapest coal from other Member states or from the generously oriented Russia; and 3) the project in Slovenia that aims to increase the use of natural gas in the electricity production – just a perfect idea, let’s forget about global warming and exhaustion of resources and just continue investing millions in ’dirty and polluting'projects.

And the EU has alternatives. Greece and Bulgaria are among the perfect countries to develop solar power plants – their capacity might be even so great that the whole of Eastern Europe might shut down its environmentally unfriendly coal power stations. And what about Western Europe – the are almost a countless list of destinations in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, the Nordic region and Central Europe where wind turbines from the lowest generating types would actually make a fortune for the electricity producers.

So where is the mind of the people from the European Commission when they fund projects involving the exhaustion of tons of harmful coal? To be honest, sometimes simply claiming that the Union is going green is not enough simply because the coal that would be released from the new initiatives of the Union would kill any positive effect generated through other legislation.
